Advent of Code 2022 - Let's play the game!
Can managers code? Hell yes, they can!
Maybe it’s not how typical managers spend their days, but the ability to understand what your team deals with is definitely a nice addition to the personal tool belt.
In my case, it’s been over a year now since I decided to invest more time and energy into the path of engineering management, but coding, and - in general - creating things out of nothing, was always high on my list of hobbies. No matter what my job title will be in the future, playing with scripts, snippets, and bits of engineering is always an important part of my growth and professional career.
In order to make my hobbyist coding life easier, recently I said goodbye to my Windows laptop and decided to fix my once-broken relationship with Apple.
As a next step, I want to utilize my new dev env in tackling challenges from Advent of Code 2022 - the annual, free-to-enter contest for engineers and people who simply enjoy solving puzzles with code. My plan is to start safe - JavaScript and TypeScript are the two languages that I’m going to use to get myself comfortable with the challenge. At some point, I plan to switch to technologies I’m less experienced with but always wanted to understand better (looking at you, Swift).
To be honest, at the time of writing this article I already completed two opening challenges with a very rough Node scripting and I want to continue in public. Let’s see how far I can go - will you join me?
